Assuming there is cash to be deposited, having command of one’s very own bank account is a just one of the many perceived perks of becoming a “grown up”. But how soon should we be educating our children about the basics of banking, and what are the advantages of teaching kids about maintaining a bank account at a young age? Listen in as our hosts interview local bank manager Damon Philpot and discuss when and how best to talk to your kids about banking.
Damon Philpot began his banking career with Washington Mutual in 2002 as a part of their community affairs outreach department to implement financial literacy programs around the city. He then moved onto branch management in the Chicago area with several banks and eventually settled in Portland where he currently manages a local bank and serves as the President of Woodstock Community Business Association and as a Board Member of Venture Portland.
